Something to Put your Felt Food In

My kids are still having fun with all the felt food I made Firecracker for her birthday.  As anyone who knows young kids could have predicted, though, all that felt food can get scattered about and make quite a mess at times.  Ditto for the puppets I made to go with their puppet theater
It was time to do something about it!
I know I'm hardly the first person to slap some scrapbook paper on a can with Mod Podge to pretty it up. It's a super simple upcycle project to keep things more organized and save some cans from the landfill.

We have a lot of food storage that we're in the process of rotating out that was sealed in #10 cans.  Here's what I started with, plus you'll need a paint brush.
I measured the dimensions of the can and cut the scrapbook paper down to size.
It took two pieces of matching scrapbook paper to go all the way around the can.
Peal off any labels.
Then I covered the can liberally with Mod Podge.  (This is a great place to let your own helping little hands help you out since uneven brush strokes and such won't show.)
Put the paper around it and put Mod Podge over the everything.  Then while it's still wet, add the letters and apply more Mod Podge.
Also, be sure to get rid of any sharp edges inside the can and then go over the inner edge with Mod Podge to assure that no little fingers get cut.  Once it dries, you'll have a nice smooth, glazed edge.
Now you've got a fun place to store your felt food (or puppets or anything else)...
...and when the kids are done playing, the lid goes on.  Now they don't get dumped out accidentally when they're not being played with.  SUCCESS!
