Super Fast Tumbling Flowers Quilt with Free Templates

I've been stocking up on black and white prints lately...I've got several projects pinned to my quilt board that I've had my eye on, and I just love how they look when paired with bold bright colors.  I've had my eye on this one in particular.

So when I saw this black and white faux patchwork flannel at Jo-Anns during their Black Friday Sale the whole bolt came home with me.  (Flannel was on sale for $1.79 a yard.)  I still have some left and I'm thinking of making a Christmas tree skirt for next year...

I needed to whip up a couple of Christmas presents fast...so I just made some simple quilts with the patchwork flannel and appliqued a few flowers on to make it more interesting.  I came up with the flower patterns by scanning in some of the flannel and copying the shape of some of the flowers...can you tell which ones?

I don't have much in the way of variety in flannel scraps, so the flowers are made out of regular cotton quilt fabric.
Then I finished it off by making my own binding tape with some of the same fabric I used for the flowers.
You can't really see the quilting, but I used the lines in the fabric as a guide and machine quilted every other line on the red quilt, and then switched to every three lines on the blue one.

Anson definitely approves.
And a few scraps to wrap it up...
Here are the templates for the flowers if you're interested (click on them for larger view)...

  3. Polly, these turned out great. When I saw the red-flowered quilt in person, I didn't even notice that the top was a solid piece of fabric. So fun to see how they turned out! Anson is a great model.
