DIY Harry Potter Doll Robe - Hermione American Girl Style Doll Tutorial

Are your kids into American Girl dolls?  My girls wish they were.  Right now they've only been blessed with the much cheaper version from Target. Both girls have a jar they're using to save money to buy a doll...I'll let you guess whether the 9-year-old or the 4-year-old has more in her job.

And up until a week or two ago, they only two outfits for the doll, and she didn't have a name.

Well, now she does have a name.  Meet Hermione!

(Our Hermione even has the characteristic bushy hair of the Hermione in the early books.)

As I was getting ready for Katie's birthday, I had the thought that I could probably make a doll robe, the same way I made Anson and Becca's Hogwarts robes for Halloween ...with a T-shirt!

And it worked great...and we couldn't stop there.  She needed a whole Hogwarts school uniform.

Oh...and of course a wand of her own.

In fact it's been so fun making these, that I've decided to carry sets in my shop if you'd rather buy one than make your own, you can purchase both basic sets (robe and scarf) and deluxe sets (robe, scarf, shirt, skirt, and wand) here.

But since I know many of you are DIYers, I'll go ahead and share my secrets.

Here's what you'll need...

Scrappy Hexies by Halves and other Quilt Progress this Weekend

This was past weekend was pretty productive quilt-wise around here.  My parents came to town along with my Nana.  My mom participated in the Hexies by Halves Quilt-Along, but life got busy and she didn't finish...until a few weeks ago.  She brought the finished quilt up, so we could take some photos.

The weather cooperated and gave us a nice sunny afternoon.  (Man! I'm looking forward to the coming spring days.  I didn't realize how much I was missing the sun.)

Glasses and Greens Quilt - Modern Quilt Guild Riley Blake Challenge Entry

Okay, so I'm squeaking this in right under the wire.  Months and months ago I signed up for the Modern Quilt Guild (MQG) Riley Blake Challenge.

For signing up, they sent us 6 fat 1/8th of Riley Blake Basics prints in different colors.  (Everyone got the same colors and prints.)  Then we could add in any solids or other Riley Blake fabrics to finish our quilts.

Ever since seeing V & Co's Ombre quilts a year or so ago, I've been wanting to try some ombre fabric.  It turns out that Riley Blake has their own ombre solids line, so I ordered 1 yard of Riley Bake Green Ombre fabric.  (I wanted to choose a color that wasn't in the fat 1/8th bundle for some contrast.)

I also had some Riley Blake Geekly Chic Glasses in Lavender from Quilt Sandwich Fabrics.  The color seemed to mesh well with the others and I though the glasses brought a little more personality to the mix.

I don't know what to create now that Valentine's day is over with!  I'm been creating holiday things since September.  Here are a few things that I have made in the middle of all the craziness of holidays:
*Subway Art Kitchen Aid Vinyl* Rainbow Plate * Lucky Printable *

It still seems to be super cold through out the US, so naturally nice hot and warm food looks so yummy and good to me :).

Here is what our fabulous hosts have been up to lately:

Wingardium LOVEiosa - FREE Printable Harry Potter Themed Valentines Updated

Seth wasn't thrilled with the Dementor's Kiss-Away valentines...and we were running out of Hershey Kisses, so we decided to fall back on last year's Harry Potter Valentines.

And because Ron and Ginny are also favorites at our house, we decided to add to the collection.  You can go to this post to download the updated Wingardium LOVEiosa Harry Potter Valentines.

Seth had a blast making his valentines.  It was fun to listen to him think aloud about which friend should get which character.  All he had to do was write the names on and stick a mini candy bar on with double-sided tape.

Plus I suppose a part of me wanted to show a bit of solidarity for Ron.  I feel a bit bad for Ron after J.K. Rowling said she thinks Hermione should have married Harry instead of Ron.  Seriously?!?  I think Ron and Hermione are great together.

Ron might not have been the most famous or the best at everything, but he stuck by his friends and was a pretty great wizard in his own right.  Why shouldn't he be good enough to be with Hermione?

Free Harry Potter Themed Printable - Dementor's Kiss-Away - Valentine or Party Favors

We just couldn't help making another Harry Potter themed Valentine this year...and I've made a non-Valentine version too if you want to use these as party favors.  The kids wanted something different from the Wingdardium LOVE-iosa Printable Valentine's from last year, and as much as we love the Printable Dementos and Dementor Relief Chocolate Bar wrappers, they just seemed like overkill for valentines for classmates.)  I was brainstorming ideas for the Anti-Dementor themed Chocolate Bar Wrappers with my brother a couple weeks ago, when the idea came to me for Dementor's Kiss-Away.

And once we'd had the idea...they just HAD to be made.  The double meaning in Kiss-Away is just too awesome, and hey...it involves chocolate.  What more do I need to say.

Fortunately Katie was on board for giving these as Valentine's (because...you know...if she didn't want to give these as valentines then we'd have to eat them all ourselves.)

And as long as I was making them for us, I figured I'd go ahead and share the printable.

14+ Off-Beat Original Valentine's Tutorials from Pieces by Polly

I have to admit that my Valentine's Crafts have always been a little off-beat.  If I'm going to spend the time on something handmade, I like it to work for the holiday and beyond.  So as I look back through the projects we've done over the years, there are plenty of hearts, but not a lot of red and pink.

Rather than writing a completely new post, I've chosen to update my previous Valentine's Round-Up with the projects that we've done since last year.

So you can click here to be taken to 14+ Valentine's Tutorials from Pieces by Polly where I have a brief description and link to each one.
