From this point on in our quilt-along, many of you may be as experienced as I am and you're free to go ahead and finish your quilt on your own. There any many different ways to finish a quilt ranging from tying, hand-quilting, home machine quilting (straight lines or free-motion), or you may have it professionally long-arm quilted. Because there's no way I could do justice to all of these methods, I'm going to focus on my current favorite method...home-machine quilting. I prefer home-machine quilting because it doesn't require any special equipment or a lot of space and is inexpensive. I'm learning to do free-motion quilting and LOVE it, but I've chosen to straight line quilt all of my hexie quilts (so far) because I feel like it complements the overall quilt design well.
Thanks for your interest in the Hexies by Halves Quilt-Along. Our quilt-along ran from July 8th through August 30th, 2013. You can now find the full Hexies by Halves PDF Quilt Pattern in my shop here.
If you'd like to see a sample of the quality of my instructions, I have left Lesson 6 - Binding Your Quilt available for free here.
Please show my sponsors some love...
Thank you for the detailed instructions. I am definitely a novice at home machine quilting...as in, I've never done it before...so I really appreciate the step-by-step directions.

What a beautiful pattern! I'd love if you'd link up to The DIY'ers! http://homecomingmn.blogspot.com/2013/08/the-diyers-and-weekend.html
ReplyDeleteGreat tutorial. Visiting from WIP Wednesday. I think I'll have a look around.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderfully clear and detailed tutorial. I've not tried spray basting so the details are very useful. Love your finished quilts too!
ReplyDeleteI got my quilting done today! I went with the 'parallelograms'. My quilting (more specifically my basting) skills are still sorely lacking, but I'll get there!
ReplyDeleteI was so sorry to miss this QAL. I just found out about it yesterday. I really like how thorough you were with your tutorials and how you took it to the very end with quilting ideas. I have saved your site in my favorites so I don't miss another QAL. Thanks for all of your effort. You did a good job.
ReplyDeletePamela, it's not too late! We still have one more lesson coming up and everyone who is signed up will get a free copy of the final PDF version of the pattern.
