5 Easy Fleece and Flannel Projects in Less than an Hour

I've been working on some fun new projects that I'm excited to show you...but that's going to take more time than I have tonight, so they'll probably come next week.  We made it to my in-laws safe and sound for in preparation for Thanksgiving today.  We're looking forward to a fun day of family and food tomorrow.

As for the day after, I haven't quite decided how much shopping I'll be doing.  Since we live in such a small town, any time we get away, we usually do a little shopping...but I hate the crowds and shopping mania that goes on for Black Friday.

Black Friday, is typically the day that flannel and fleece go on sale super cheap at Jo-Anns...and fleece blankets make for easy and cozy gifts for family or for sharing with those in need.

Looking for some easy and kid-approved ideas to do with all that cheap fleece or flannel?  Here are some projects I've done in the past.

Last year we made somewhere around 8 fleece blankets to give with other Christmas gifts to kids on the Giving Tree at Firecracker's school.  I've never been a fan of the knots on fleece blankets, so instead I figured out a way to make these braided edge fleece blankets.  I think they look a bit classier, and they're definitely more comfortable to lay on top of without the knots.

Updated Nov. 30, 2011 - I should rename this post 6 things to do with fleece or flannel...because I just came up with a new project.  If you'd rather make a double sided fleece blanket with a braided edge, you can see my new tutorial here.

Also last year, I made this fleece fitted sheet for Little Brother's toddler bed.  He's now outgrown that bed and the toddler bed is now loved by Sweet Pea...and she's still using his car themed fleece sheet.  I think I'll be making her a new -girlier- fleece fitted sheet to match the quilt I'm planning for her.

And another fun option with fleece blankets with little ties.

Of course a classic Christmas gift is flannel pajamas.  You can see my recent post here about how to make easy and cute coordinating flannel pjs.

But the main thing I use my flannel for is making burp cloths as baby gifts...although I really should go pick out some cute fabric for new burp cloths for our little one on the way.  You can find my basic burp cloth tutorial here...

There are also some cute variations...the Big Sister Burp Cloths

Big Brother Burp Cloths

And of course the Burp Cloth Cupcake.

And even if you don't have a baby in the house, those flannel burp cloths also make great boogie wipers for toddlers on up.
