A couple weeks ago, I saw this Round-Up of Melted Crayon Projects on Be Different, Act Normal. I was intrigued and we have a whole box of not-quite new crayons that have been crying out to be used for something for a while.
So last Saturday, while Little Brother and Sweet Pea were napping, Firecracker and I pulled out the crayons and went to work.
Updated Jan. 2012 to Add: You might also want to check out my newest Melted Crayon Art...Letter Tiles. They're done pretty much the same way, but you can see more details and pictures here.

A Hero Cat Sitting in our Window
Meet our new pet...the Hero Cat.
And she has kittens.
The cat in the book as 5 kittens...and we made five kittens. The cat in our window has four kittens looking out the window with her since she kindly offered up her 5th kitten to Sweet Pea to carry around the house and love...literally...to pieces. It's been taped back together twice.

Kids' Fall Trees Art
I saw a "Fall Trees" project from Gail at That Artist Woman a couple weeks ago. (I LOVE her site because the projects she does end up looking like art and not just a "craft" project.) I thought they were so pretty and figured I could do all the background and then just have the kids add the leaves.
Then I had a bit of an epiphany about really young kids and art projects. You can get a nicer finished project if you only have them do one concrete step at a time. I know...I know...you all knew that already, but it just barely dawned on me. So I thought we'd try out my new strategy with this project.
