This is one I made to participate in my own Hexies by Halves Quilt along that started in July.
I did pretty well keeping up with the quilt-along schedule until it came to the backing. When the purple came that I ordered, I realized it wasn't quite the right shade, and I had to wait until I could get to the fabric store myself to choose a better match. Then since I was already behind, it sat for quite a while waiting for it's backing. Never one to be able to leave a pattern alone (even when it's my own apparently) I decided to mix things up a bit on the back.
This time instead of doing a line of hexies, I scattered them. I love how it turned out and I think this could make a fun quilt top all on it's own. (And I have to thank my friend Anya from Rainy Day Threads because the quilt she was working on at the PNW MQG Meet-up is what have me the inspiration.)
I also decided to try a different variation with the quilting. I skipped quilting the horizontal lines and did the both sets of diagonals. I love the diamond design it ended up making.
And since I quilted on both sides of the seam lines, each hexie corner ended up with a cute little diamond of it's own.
I think the dark purple florals with a few black prints thrown in ended up giving the quilt a fun edgy vibe. It's now listed in my Etsy shop here.
If you've been considering purchasing the Hexies by Halves Pattern, I've now updated it with an additional section on how to make the scattered hexies backing. I'll be emailing those who have already purchased the pattern, but if you've purchased it and I somehow missed you, send me an email and I'll get the updated version to you.
Please show my sponsors some love...
