Bits of This and That & Giveaway Winner

Things have been busy as usual around our house.  There have been quite a few things I've wanted to mention, so I thought I'd roll them all into one post.

The winner of last week's Crazy 8's Pre-Cut's Bundle is Linnae H.  She's already been emailed and her pre-cuts are getting mailed out this afternoon.

Don't forget that there are still a few days for you to use your coupon code at You Keep Me in Stitches.  Patty is offering Pieces by Polly readers a 20% discount off EVERYTHING on in her store  AND 20% off everything on her sister site, Granma's Treasures.  Just use the Coupon Code "Polly Pieces" at checkout through Nov. 15th.

I'm excited to announce that my younger (but obviously cooler) sister has just published her first sewing book.  I pre-ordered my copy months ago, so I was excited to find it in my mailbox last week.  Simple Sewing: 30 Fast and Easy Projects for Beginners by Katie Lewis (affiliate link).

The kids and I had a lot of fun all weekend getting familiar with it.  We've already sewed up three projects from in and have a few more in the works.  I'll get to show you all those on Friday when I get my turn in Katie's book tour, but if you want a sneak peak, Katie is kicking off the book tour today on her blog The Red Kitchen.   Be sure to check in everyday as you see some of your favorite bloggers show off their creations from the book...and there will be lots of chances to win a free copy.

And I've been really enjoying this little sewing pouch.  I won a little giveaway from Amanda at Jedi Craft Girl.  As part of the giveaway we were supposed to say what we'd use the pouch for if we won.  Anson had just been getting into the little cubbie in my sewing machine that holds my sewing machine needs, extra feet, etc, so I said I'd use it for all those little sewing machine extras.  Boy was I wowed when this arrived and she'd picked the perfect coordinating fabric.

And now all my little extras as tucked safe inside.  Anson still gets into the the sewing machine itself, but hasn't shown interest in this yet...so problems solved.  Amanda has a simple tutorial for making these little zipper pouches here, if you want to make one for yourself or as gifts.

And in case you missed the announcement, We've got a quilt-along going on.  I'm hoping to have lesson 2 up by the end of the day, but it's not too late to join in the fun.  You can see Lesson 1 here and sign up.  There are already 30 or so people sewing along with us.  It should be fun.

And there are still some photos trickling in of finished quilts from the Hexies-by-Halves Quilt Along.  I love this one that Emily made.  The colors are just so fun and I like the creative pieced backing.

Please show my sponsors some love...

  2. Congratulations on your sister's book! I'm excited to get Lesson 2. I just got my very first 'for hire' project, but I'll do my best to keep up with the quilt-along. I mean, who needs sleep, right? :-)
