The I-Can't-Believe-They-Spread-Wet-Potting-Soil-Thoughout-the-Living-Room Dessert

Yeah, you read that right.  They spread wet potting soil throughout the living room.  Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!  Although to be fair, it was mostly confined to the sofa, behind the sofa, and about one square yard or so next to the sofa.

I don't have any pictures of it because I was so mad, I forgot...yeah, I was that mad.  I wish I could say that I handled it with patience and grace...but I didn't.

Remember my post from last week about wondering if they could get along too well?  Apparently they can.  Little Brother and Sweet Pea were getting along pretty well all morning, so I was letting them play while I got stuff done...like three loads of laundry trying to find Firecracker's soccer shirt.  (It turned up in the garage?!?!)  I was especially mad, because the wet potting soil they spread about used to hold our tiny seedlings that we'd been getting ready for our garden.  I did find a few that might make it...but we'll see.  Now we get to plant them all over again.

I'm also mad at myself because Hubby and I knew the little plants were by the front door waiting to go back outside, and we could have moved them out sooner.  And of course mad at myself that I wasn't paying more attention to what they were doing.

So after the time-outs and the naps, and soccer, and Family Home Evening, we had these for dessert.

***Note:  I didn't really bring to the kids' attention that the dessert was like the mess they made, but the irony was not lost on the parents.  I guess I thought of it as more therapy...you know...because chocolate makes everything seem better.

The "I-Can't-Believe-They-Spread-Wet-Potting-Soil-Thoughout-the-Living-Room" Dessert
(The concept for this dessert is hardly original to us...many people use crumbled up Oreo cookies instead of brownies...but we didn't have those and we did have brownie mix.)

You'll need:
One batch of brownies
One batch of instant chocolate pudding
A few gummy worms

I crumbled up some brownie and put it in the bottom of the cup.
Then I added a couple of spoonfuls of pudding on top. and a gummy worm or two
Then more crumbled up brownie.

Eat.  Yum.

Look, Mom!  There's a worm!

It's a little hard to tell because he has overalls on, but I guess it's appropriate that Little Brother was wearing his Mud Pi shirt while making the mess.

And if you have your own dirt lover, you might like the book I wrote about here...

What messes have your kids been making lately?

  1. Oh, I am sooooo sorry. When I read this morning that you were going to post about potting soil in the living room, I thought, "Well, it's not that hard to vacuum up potting soil." But I was imagining DRY potting soil. Wet = ugh.

And all the little seedlings too... Well, life goes on, no?

At least they didn't spread brownies and pudding on the carpet!

  2. love the name!! Makes me glad I have hardwood floors or we'd be in the same situatioN!

  3. Way to make the best of it! My son spilled 2 entire cups of milk today that his brother left within reach (one filled my dishcloth/potholder drawer) Ugh.

  4. Oh man! Best of luck cleaning that up! My 2 yr old daughter took a Sharpie to the kitchen on Sunday :(. Haha, what can you do! Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  5. Looks like the kid had fun eating the edible dirt with the gummy worms.

  6. Wow thanks for putting life into perspective. I was frustrated with the "tornado just blew through my house" look but compared to actual wet dirt I think I will keep the tornado! Love the dessert! TOO fun! Something we are going to have to try out soon!
