Scrappy Bunting Cards and Giveawawy (Closed)

Last week I was itching to do something with some of the scraps I've been generating lately.  I hate to put little pieces of fabric back into my regular fabric stash because they can get lost and it makes the whole bin a mess.  I've more or less decided on a scrap quilt to start...but I need some good quality white quilt fabric first...and that has to wait until this next weekend before we can get to the "big city" and go fabric shopping.  (Funny how using up scraps necessitates buying more fabric...isn't that how it always works?!?)

Anyway, I had the itch to do something with those pretty scraps, and I knew some of them would be too small for a scrap quilt anyway, so I decided to whip up some of these.

I figure they'll work well for writing Thank You cards (which I'm typically terrible at sending out) for baby gifts, especially since the scraps came from the baby's quilt.  (Which I'll post about sometime...but I'm waiting to have a cute baby to pose with it.)

They're super easy and only take a tiny bit of fabric.

A little pile of scraps can be transformed into a big pile of notecards.

And a little pile of ...scraps...but this time, they'll be small enough you'll feel okay about throwing them away or using them as stuffing.

And since we've been rather infatuated with the moon and space around her lately, I couldn't help but trying out some cards on black cardstock and adding a moon (with white crayon)...

...and of course we needed a few different phases of the moon.

Here's what you'll need... Fabric scraps, cardstock, pennant template, rotary cutter and mat (or scissors), sewing machine and thread.

My cardstock is just regular 8 1/2 x 11 printer cardstock.  I cut it in half to make 8 1/2x5 1/2 inch pieces and then folded them in half to make the card.  If you've got fancier scrapbooking cardstock, you could really go crazy with colors and sizes.

I made myself a little triangle template out of cardstock.  You could easily make your own, but I'm including mine in case you don't want to take the trouble.  You can print the free Bunting Template here.  It's just the right size to fit five across a card.

Once you've got a nice pile of little flags, it's time to sew them.  I completely spaced taking a picture of this step...but it's really easy.  I did NOT find it necessary to tape or pin them on.  I just arranged them and ran them through the sewing machine with a rather long stitch length.  I also did NOT bother securing the ends.

That's it.

For envelopes, I buy "Invitation" Envelopes.  You can get them pretty much anywhere that sells office supplies.  I think I bought these at Wal-Mart or Target, and there are usually a few colors to choose from.  I need to pick some more up.

They're just a tad smaller than the envelope, which is how you want it for an easy fit.
