Weekend at the PNW Modern Quilt Guild Meet-Up

Let me just say I had one of the most rejuvinating and enjoyable weekends than I've had in a long time.  It was so nice to get away without any kids or distractions and be able to sew while chatting with so many other creative and talented quilters from all over the Pacific Northwest.

I was able get two quilt tops started and completely finished during our all-day sew day on Saturday.  (I did have the pieces cut and layout figured out the night before.)  I'll have share more details about how they're put together when I get them quilted and bound.  I'm not sure what I'll do with the Rocket Boys Triangles...maybe put it in my shop

The I-Spy Stripes quilt will be going to Katie's Comforter's Guild which supplies quilts to Seattle Children's Hospital.  I think it will be a nice and cheery one for them.  Last weekend was the anniversary of the Katie that Katie's Comforter's Guild is named for passing away several years ago, so I was thinking of her and her family while I sewed it.  Her mom said she liked cats, so I put the cat and dog print at the very top.

This was my view most of the day...my machine just humming along with lots of other ladies sewing around me.  (And actually this was taken while a lot of people were off to lunch, so it was quite a bit more crowded for a while.)

It was a lot of fun to meet some people in real life who had heard of my blog and even left comments.  Anya was particularly friendly from the very beginning.  She's got a cute blog called Rainy Day Threads, and she was working on an amazing hexie quilt (not my pattern...another one.) on our sewing day.

It was a lot of fun to arrive to the Friday events and get my goody bag...and find my card inside with my free pattern offer.

It was a bit hard to part with my bag for the bag swap, but it went to a lovely lady who I'd chatted with and had been very friendly even before the swap.  I'm sure it's found a good home.  I got an awesome bag in return...and I still need to take a picture of it, but I wanted to get this post up.

The show-and-tell meeting Thursday night was a lot of fun, inspiring...and a little intimidating.  I took lots of pictures, but sadly, it was pretty dark, so the pictures didn't turn out well.  There was plenty of quilting eye candy throughout the event.  Friday's events all took place at Modern Domestic in Portland.  So many fun things to look at arranged in such lovely ways.  I loved just looking at all the fat quarter solids arranged.  It made me want to take one of each home with me...but I was very good and didn't buy much fabric.

Modern Domestic also had some fabulous quilts on display.  My pictures really don't do them justice.  It was fun to see them up close and get a better a better look at the actual quilting, which is something I want to get better at.

Loved the different colors of quilting threads in this one...

I'm usually not a fan of sampler quilts, but I love all these modern blocks.

This quilt is made using the new Bridges line of fabric designed by Violet Craft.  She's from Portland and a member of the guild...so I almost bought some of her fabric...but decided I better hold off until I have an actual project in mind for it.

For Saturday's sew in, we got to choose between going to Fabric Depot to work on our own projects or going to Modern Domestic to do charity quilting.  I opted for Fabric Depot because they had a larger workspace and I wanted to be sure I would be able to sew all-day.  (That's right...no taking turns for me!)  I'd had delusions of maybe getting 3 or 4 quilt tops done...but I'm happy with the two I completed.

I'll have more details on my bag and quilts later, but was anxious to share about my weekend.  I'm hoping that I'll have the final lesson for the Quilt-Along done soon.

Please show my sponsors some love...

  2. It was so much fun to meet you. The Rocket Boys triangle quilt was even more adorable in person (if that is possible).
