Carpi Sun Lunch Bag

Firecracker has been in need of a lunch bag for the days she brings lunch from home.  I bought a thing of Caprisuns at Costco last time I was there as a special "sometimes" treat for her lunch.  As you can see...we've gone through more than I originally intended.  School lunch (which is not all that healthy) here is free for everyone, so it's been a bit of a challenge to convince her to take lunch from home.  For now we have a deal...two days a week of school lunch and three days a week sack lunch.

Anyway, Firecracker needed a lunch bag and when I saw this idea for making old Capri Sun packets into a lunch bag, I couldn't resist.  When the juice packets came back home, we slit the bottoms and ran them through the dishwasher and I saved them up until we had enough.

I basically just followed the directions on the above link, with one change.  I trimmed the front down and tapered the sides a bit, so the back could fold over easier and then it only required one set of velcro.

Then I zigzagged sewed those raw edges to make sure they held together.  I also used sew-on velcro instead of the sticky-backed stuff.
At first I thought it looked to big, but then when I went to fill it, I realized it was just the right size.
Firecracker is happy with it...but still begs to eat school lunch as often as she can.

  2. Super cute. And that's cool that lunch is free. But I guess it's probably not all that healthy. Anyway, cool lunch bag. Lucky girl. :)

here to get a tutorial! I only have 5? so far....we use them for special occasions, too. About school lunches not being healthy....this is a big surprise to me. Our schools don't supply any food but they really promote healthy choices. My kid's school send home notes about food not recommended for school. And, they ask for it to be a litter-less lunch, too. It's for the best though.
