Random Acts of Giving

I feel so blessed this year.  Hubby has found a permanent job he likes, and we're lucky enough that it's in a town we LOVE, and hopefully we'll live forever here and raise our kids.  The people here have been so nice and welcoming to us.  We've had neighbors and aquaintences show up on our doorstep with boxes of apples, buckets of freshly dug potatoes, cinnamon rolls, cookie dough, garden tomatoes and the list goes on and on.   We didn't "need" these things in the sense that we could have bought them ourselves, but we have needed to be thought of and remembered in such kind ways.

I've been trying to do a better job of looking for chances to serve others in similar ways.  Sometimes when I think of something to do for someone else, I put it off because I'm busy, or they might think I'm silly, or whatever.  I'm trying to do better though at just simple things like making twice as much dinner so we can take dinner to another busy mom, providing gifts for less fortunate kids at Firecrackers' school, or writing thank you notes to staff at Firecracker's school, etc.  None of these things really takes up all that much time on it's own, but it does add up.  I've been making extremely slow progress on my list of Christmas projects I wanted to do because I've been doing other things.  But that's okay.  If my kids don't get everything I planned to make for them...then they'll get those things in January...or February...or March...or later...or maybe even never.  Even if I get nothing else done before Christmas, they'll have plenty of things under the tree.   When and if they do get all the things I plan to make they may appreciate them more for having them be spread out through the year.

So I don't know why I'm blabbing on about this to you all...I don't share all that much personal stuff on here.  You're an awesome bloggy friend if you've made it this far.  Perhaps, I just want to assure you that if you're not getting all the crafty things done you want to...it's okay to slow down.  Think of a random act of giving you can give to someone else...who might or might not "need" what you have to offer, but may need to know that someone is thinking of them and appreciates the work they do.

Merry Christmas!

  4. Thank you so much for that post! I have been feeling a little stressed over the list of projects I had intended to finish before Christmas, but as I read your post, I realized that they mostly haven't been finished because I was busy serving someone else or spending time creating memories with my family!

We've never met, and yet my life has been touched and inspired by your posts many times. Hopefully, the comments posted by us, your blog-stalking fans, at least serve as encouragement when it's needed. Thanks for all your inspiring posts! Enjoy the Christmas season with your wonderful family!
