Survivors

They did it!

Firecracker has survived 100 days of kindergarten, and Hubby has survived 100 days of teaching high school science.  Not only did they survive, though, they're both thriving!
A friend came over to stay with Sweet Pea and Little Brother while they napped, so I could go help out with Firecracker's 100th day party.  (Several 100th Day of School books have made it into our house over the last couple years.  As I've read them with Firecracker, I thought, "Yeah, right...like schools really do this."  Now I know, they do!

Firecracker originally wanted to bring in 100 books for her "100 collection," but then changed her mind at the last minute to bringing in 100 wipes...a lot easier to manage.

Her teacher had a lot of fun activities planned...like making 100 Day Trail Mix.  They laid out 10 each of 10 different snacks and then put them in a baggie.

Then they made 100 Day necklaces, but laying out 100 fruit loops on a grid and then stringing them onto a string.

They made crazy 100 Day hats with 10 strips of paper with 10 squares each.  The put a sticker in each square and then stapled the strips to their hats.

They also wrote down something that they could do now that they couldn't do when they started school.  Her teacher also printed out a giant 100 dollar bill with each child's face in the middle.  They they had to write and draw what they would buy if they had 100 dollars.  I didn't get a picture of that, unfortunately, and they haven't sent those home yet.

They also got fun glasses to wear, badges, as well as a certificate, and they just generally had a really fun day of it.

And when I asked the kids what they wanted for dinner, Firecracker said, "100 Day Pizza!"  And since that wasn't any more work than regular pizza...that's what we had.

(And on an unrelated note...Helping Little Hands is on Facebook now!  Go to our page here or click "like" on my sidebar if you'd like to keep up to date via Facebook.)

  1. That's so fun! I've never heard of the 100 days of school thing. Do a lot of places do it? I love how easy the teacher made it for the kids to get 100 of each...ten squares on ten pieces of paper and such. That's awesome.
    Blog's looking good!

  2. Our school does it here in Texas as well. I know not everyone does because we went through three states of Kindergarten with our first and only heard about a 100 Days celebration when we got to Texas. Such a fun day though. We did very similar activities this year with our second as what Firecracker did.
