Sunshine Circle Skirt...Again...

Okay, I know I'm not the only one who's had trouble with blogger last week.  It deleted my last post about the Sunshine Circle Skirt I made for Firecracker...and I was more in the mood to work on some projects and get some yard work done rather than blog about them, so it's taken me a while to rewrite the post.

Anyway, I present you with...the Sunshine Circle Skirt.   It's my new favorite skirt to make for my girls, so I'm sure I'll be making more.  It takes a bit more fabric than other skirts since you cut it out in one complete circle rather than strips or sections, but I love how full and twirly it is.

And it's also perfect for jumping.

Really high.

And when Firecracker was ready to head off to school, she found the perfect accessory...bright yellow sunglasses.

I think she looks a little life Fly from Diary of a Fly (and Diary of a Spider and Diary of a Worm) by Doreen Cronin.  (They're all great books we've recently checked out from the library.)

And as she heads off to school, I can't help but think how much more grown up she is than when she started school 8 months ago.

And the skirt is perfect for twirling...
...and skipping...

...all the way to school.  And I'm glad she's not too grown grown up to blow kisses to Mom.  (And aren't I a lucky mom to be able to watch her walk all the way to school?!?)

I used the circle skirt tutorial from Dana on MADE.  The whole thing went super fast and I it only took about half an hour to make it...and that was only because I had to make a waistband for the elastic since I didn't have the super wide elastic on hand.  (And I've learned I have to sew things right when I'm really in the mood because if I wait, it just doesn't happen.)  I even fit a little Hand-Me-Down REHAB in because I reused some old elastic and used an old T-shirt for the waistband.

Normally I dread hemming...especially on a curve...but I just did a fast zigzag all the way around and then turned it up about 1/4 inch or less and sewed it down.  The hem was so narrow, I didn't bother ironing it, and it turned out great.  Next time I make one, I'll take more pictures for a little how-to...because I'll definitely be making more of these.

Please show my sponsors some love...

  3. Yes, do give us a tutorial on the hemming. Was that a cotton fabric or a silky fabric? It looks great! And twirly!
