So, so blessed...

On Friday I was driving to my prenatal check-up.  Firecracker was at school, and I had just dropped off the younger kids to play with at a friends house.  It's about a 45 minute drive on rural highways for each of my check-ups, so I get plenty of time to think.  It's a pretty drive, more so when the fields are growing things, but even now when the fields are empty the drive has it's own beauty and peacefulness.

As I was driving I just started thinking about how truly blessed I am.  Eight years ago as we were struggling with infertility, I wondered if and when I would ever get to be a mom.  Since then we've been blessed with two adoptions, and now my second pregnancy, about to become mom to four wonderful kids.  (Don't get me wrong, they drive me crazy a lot of days, but they bring a lot of happiness, purpose, and fulfillment to my life.)

Three years ago when I was expecting Sweet Pea any day, I was of course excited, but also a bit overwhelmed at the prospect of parenting 3 kids in a tiny apartment, with Hubby STILL in school and putting in long hours.  Our family was far away, and a several of our good friends had recently graduated and moved away.  With such a terrible job market, I worried about when and where Hubby would get a job after graduation, and where our family would land.

Now with #4 almost here, I'm feel so much calmer, and SO blessed.  We've found an amazing tiny town to call home, where we live among such amazing, good people.  Hubby has a good job and will be able to take some real time off after our baby comes.  Grandmas and grandpas while not super close, are close enough to take turns coming and helping during the first few weeks.  Our new house won't be finished before the baby comes, but will hopefully be done in the next 4-6 weeks.  And we have amazing friends and neighbors who we always know we can count on if there is a problem.  All we have to do is ask...

...and in some cases we don't even have to ask...  After thinking about all of this on my drive to my doctor appointment Friday, I came home to walk into my house and find the kitchen, dining room, and living room spotless.  A couple of friends had asked me to leave my door unlocked, saying they had to drop something off and that they would lock up after they left.  Instead they came in and cleaned my house on one of it's messiest days.  I'd been working on a craft project (surprise, surprise) all day the day before and the house was a WRECK!  Besides being a bit embarrassed that they had seen my house in one of it's worst states, I just felt so, so blessed to have such good friends thinking of me.

  9. A really nice heart warming post. It reminded me of the times others had reached out and served me as well, including the times you and "hubby" have also gone above and beyond to serve Geoff and I.
