Alice the Fairy Book and Wand

It's been a while since I've shared some favorite kids' books...so here's a fun one.  I was lucky enough to find a copy of Alice the Fairy by David Shannon at Goodwill a while back.  David Shannon is one of our favorite authors/illustrators at our house...and I love finding good quality hardback books at the thrift store.
Alice is a temporary fairy who can use her wand to do some magic...she can't turn a frog into a prince, but she can turn her dad into a horse.  She can't turn her bath into jello yet...but she can turn her white dress red when her wand tips over her grape juice.  The book just seems to capture some of the essence of childhood to me.

I decided to use a little fairy magic to turn it into a Christmas gift for my niece.  Becca tried it out and approved.



I just sewed some two-tone felt hearts (you could skip the sewing and glue it just as easily...I just like the look of the stitching.  Once the middle star was sewn on, I sewed two of them together, leaving a small opening for the dowel to go through.

Painted some dowels with pink paint and an overcoat of Extreme Glitter...

...Popped the stars on the top along with some ribbon...

...and my niece had a wand to go with an adorable book.

    I'm sure your niece loved it! There's nothing like finding a nice hard back copy of a great book while thrifting, that's an awesome feeling!

    I am going to check out this book. Ash is so into Fairies right now and it is really difficult to find Fairy stuff for boys. (he loves Fairies so much he is telling every one his name is Tinkerbell.) I'm working on some fairy wings but I might have to make a wand to go with it too.
