What's for Breakfast? Pancakes! - Felt Food Cook-Along - Day 11

(Be sure to check out the full list of felt food tutorials in the right sidebar. --------------------->

Every kid loves pancakes, right?  My kids ask for them for breakfast everyday (but most days they get oatmeal.)  Of course one of the fun things about making pancakes is making them in different shapes.  Dinosaurs are one of the favorites around here.
So when I made the kids' felt pancakes, I made some the traditinal circle shape, but then we had to make a snowman and dinosaur pancake too. (And let me tell you...the felt dinosaur looks worlds better than any "real" pancake dinosaurs that ever graced our griddle.)
Materials: light brown and/or cream felt, batting or fleece for filler, sewing machine, thread, scissors, needle

First, cut out your shapes.  I think I traced a bowl for the regular pancakes.  I just drew the snowman and dinosaur freehand on paper and traced onto the felt.  You'll need two pieces of brown felt for each pancake.  Then I cut my fleece filler to be just smaller than brown felt.
Make a pancake-filler sandwich and pin.  I sewed around the edges using a zig-zag stitch.  I didn't do extra stitching to secure the ends.  Instead leave long strings when you begin and end and then tie them together in a knot.
Then to get rid of the tails, thread all the ends into a needle and pull them to the inside of the pancake.
There are plenty of other ways you could finish the edges...just sewing a straight stitch or you could sew leave an opening, turn it inside out, and hand-sew the opening shut.  I went for super easy with this one.

Come back tomorrow for pancake toppings...felt butter and syrup.

P.S.  I'm still working on getting a printable version of my mini-muffins up.  I just need to figure out how to post it and keep it true to size.
