My Mailbox Never Smelled So Good

I love getting mail...good mail anyway...you know like friendly postcard, a letter from a friend, and best yet...a package.  Of course a package from a friend is even more awesome...which is what just arrived from my friend Lisa.

Lisa is one of my best real-life friends, and she just opened a shop called Lily and Oak.  I'll give her a proper introducation another day, but for now, I just wanted to show off some of the stuff she sent...because it's pretty awesome, and I am having fun trying to figure out how to take slightly artsy pics with my new camera.  (And I'm learning my pics would look more artsy if I used something other than a dishtowel as a backdrop...but it was a nice dishcloth from my mother-in-law for my birthday.)

Another friend of mine mentioned a few months ago that she always wears the same very light-scented perfume, so that her children will grow up with that same familiar motherly smell familiar to them.  Somewhere I've got a bottle of my grandma's old perfume...and it makes me think of her each time I handle the bottle.  All that got me thinking.  Hubby in particular is not a big fan of heavy scents, so neither of us wear perfume or cologne, but I thought I might try to find a light scent to have in our home that could be a "home" smell to our kids as they grow up.  Hubby and I are not candle fans because of the fire hazard and the soot, so when Lisa told me about the wax melts she makes, I was excited to try them.

Lisa said she'd send me a few samples.  Well...when I opened the box it was more than a few samples.  It's going to take us a while to try all of these to find one we like the best, so you'll have to forgive me if I occasionally mention which scent I'm testing while I work on my crafts.

So far we've tried French Lavender...because I let Firecracker choose and lavender is her favorite color.  Usually I'm not a big fan of lavender...there always seems to be something a little edgy in it, but this one doesn't have that edge.  So far it's been a winner...a lovely scent, without being overpowering...but I can't say it's my favorite yet since there are so many others to try.

And when Firecracker and I pulled several out of their bags to stack up and play with for the camera, I was pleasantly surprised at how distinctive each smell was and easy to match back up with it's label.

If you want to try some of Lisa's wax melts out for yourself, she's just started an online shop called Lily and Oak.  Also, be sure to go to her Facebook page here and click "like" if you want to be kept up to date about sales and promotions she'll have going on.

And besides her handcrafted wax melts, she'd got a selection of beautiful pendant necklaces and glass tile magnets.

I've already worn mine a couple times already, and love it.

It's not to early to start thinking about Mothers' Day.  Or maybe your significant other forgot to get you a little something for Valentine's day, and you want to treat yourself...or send him a quick email with her link.
